Going Underground

The new Underground System is a revolutionary product that is compatible with traditional street container installations and is set to overcome some of the problems encountered by retailers and local authorities, concerning space, collection sizes and the asthetic appeal of waste containers.

The System works thus: -

Waste is deposited through stainless steel "mailboxes" installed at street level, which indicate the type of waste. Contenur offers two possible underground container solutions:

• The universale double hook system which empties by means of doors in the base of each unit (as with modular recycling banks), or
• A hydraulic lifting system for the platform on which the "mailboxes" are located, employing the hydraulic circuit controlled from the actual collection vehicle (as illustrated). This system utilises standard containers for either rear or side loading.

Because the System is underground it has the following key benefits for retail and local authority clients:

• Less concern with waste odour and infestation.
• Can be used to segregate waste products.
• Aesthetically the "mailboxes" look more pleasing as they are not being handled as frequently or in the traditional way.

Whilst the system saves space above ground it offers the opportunity for larger receptacles below ground thus meaning fewer waste collections are required. This has significant positive time and cost implications on the bottom line.

The system is completely flexible as surface "mailboxes" can be set in series of 2, 3 or 4 boxes (or any combination). So for example, customers can specify 2 banks of 3, and then 1 bank of 4 boxes which would make a large bank of 10 different receptacles.

The System is ideal for areas of natural beauty and city centre residents and retailers alike where space, odour, collection logistics and costs can be problematic.
