While England in its entirety is famed for its poor weather, Manchester has something of a reputation all of its own for its relentless precipitation. However, with average annual rainfall figures of 809mm, this reputation is somewhat undeserved.

The city is noted for its damp and humid climate, a feature that played a key part in its success as a cotton producer. Manchester is also subject to moderate wind speeds, snowfall and temperatures.

Winter in Manchester can be cold, although by no means as cold as destinations farther north, and snow is rarely seen before the end of the year, tending to make its presence felt between January and March.
